Erik plays a key role in ensuring that Uppsala BIO continues to identify and initiate new ways of enhancing and supporting the region’s life science sector. Since becoming CEO in 2008, he has strengthened and expanded the organization, ensured closer collaborations with complementary organisations such as Uppsala’s business incubator (UIC), and steered development of the BIO-X concept into becoming a nationwide program partially supported by VINNOVA and recognized by international industrial players such as Roche. Erik holds several board positions including Counsel of European Bioregions and is a member of the steering committee for SciLife Innovation. Before joining Uppsala BIO, Erik had a successful career in academic research, entering the biotech tools industry as a Senior Scientist at Gyros AB before moving to GE Healthcare where he eventually became Head of Research and Development for cell technologies.

Kristin Hellman

Currently leading the BIO-X call for ICT-healthcare solutions, Kristin is an experienced BIO-X coach, supporting projects in diagnostics, green and industrial biotechnology, and those looking at new opportunities for existing drugs. Kristin has more than 10 years of industrial experience within biotech tools and diagnostics. She has a broad understanding of business and the importance of matching market and customer requirements with internal resources and business strategy to develop a strong project and product portfolio. Responsible for five product launches, she is experienced in the introduction of new technologies into the market place. Kristin has always worked closely with customers, R & D and sales organizations, holding roles in project and product management, product and application support, and sales.

Erik Olaisson

Erik is currently a BIO-X coach for projects investigating new solutions for hospital-acquired infections and new opportunities for existing drugs. After more than 25 years working in pharmaceutical and medical device development, in major pharmaceutical as well as venture-funded companies, in virtual organizations and as an independent consultant, Erik has an extensive global network in life science. Experienced in international marketing and business development, he has also held leading roles in project management, specifically in product development during clinical phases, and, in a sponsor’s role, coordinated medical device clinical validations, Phase I and Phase III studies with CROs.  Experienced in CE and 510k processes, he has also been involved in personalised medicine, combined pharma and medical device products and companion diagnostics.

Anna Ridderstad Wollberg

Responsible for the BIO-X call “New opportunities for existing drugs” in 2013, Anna is coach for an ongoing project under this theme as well as earlier BIO-X projects looking for new solutions for hospital-acquired infections and new diagnostic tools and methods. She plays a key role in the organisation of major events such as the bi-annual Diagnostic Forum held in Uppsala and in managing other networking events and regional collaboration projects organised by Uppsala BIO. Anna gained more than 10 years of experience in project leadership and in working with global, multi-disciplinary teams within preclinical drug discovery at Astra Zeneca. She has been involved in the evaluation of chemical and biological compounds as candidate drugs for the treatment of multiple sclerosis and Alzheimers as well as for pain control. Her work at Astra Zeneca and earlier research in the field of immunology has resulted in more than 25 peer-reviewed publications.

Malin Wiederholm

As product manager, Malin is responsible for the education and training of organisations who wish to introduce the BIO-X program into their region. She has been closely involved with the development of the BIO-X program and supports the follow-up of each BIO-X call and many of the networking activities organized through Uppsala BIO. Malin is coach for several BIO-X projects selected under themes such as ‘new diagnostic tools and methods’ and ‘new opportunities for existing drugs’. After acquiring her M.Sc in molecular biology, Malin attended training courses and worked in short term projects that expanded her knowledge and understanding of project management, strategic marketing, business development and innovation support.

Helén Fält is responsible for supporting the BIO-X program in the region of Norrland. As a chemist Helén has worked with both clinical studies as well as her own research, at the pediatrics department at Norrlands University Hospital (NUS). In addition to this, she also has experience from biotech companies, Symbicom, and Big Pharma, Astra Zeneca. Most recently Helén comes from APL, where she has been a highly valued project manager for contract manufacturing of pharmaceuticals for clinical trials.

Göran Leonardsson

In his role as Business Adviser at Sahlgrenska Science Park, Göran is also responsible for supporting the BIO-X program in the region of Västra Götaland. He has a broad scientific and commercial background having held research and project management positions in pharmaceutical companies such as Swedish Orphan Biovitrum, Arexis and Astra Zeneca as well as non-profit organisations such as Cancer Research UK.
